The New EV Grant
The government grant for plug in electric vehicles has been a massive success since it began in 2011 with 54000 Electric Vehicles being purchased in the UK. Up until today you could get 35% of the value of the car up to £5000 back from the Government. This grant was due to expire at the end of February 2016, however the Government has decided to extend the plug-in car grant for electric and plug-in hybrid cars to March 2017, This is great news for customers wanting to buy an electric vehicle.
There is however a new system in place to distribute the money. The new system means that;
From today, electric-car buyers will be offered £4,500 off the price of the new vehicle, which is only £500 less than the original grant.
But plug-in hybrid cars - those with an electric motor supplemented by a petrol or diesel engine - will only be eligible for a £2,500 grant, which is half the amount customers would have got this time last month. However as the grant was due to expire at the end of this month, this is still an amazing grant towards your car.
We have seen a massive influx of people opting for plug in vehicles over the past few months and we expect this trend to continue.
